They can't all be Nexus Ones and X10s. Perhaps Android's greatest selling point, for manufacturers, is the fact that it is free to use in their devices. That means a higher-quality OS with a much lower development and licensing cost, which allows manufacturers to make dirt-cheap phones for the masses.
The Gigabyte GSmart Android phone (AndroidSpin) is one of these populist smartphones. It sports a 528 MHz Qualcomm processor, a 2.8" touchscreen, and the Android 1.6 OS. It supports 2G EDGE, but not 3G. The GSmart does have WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
All in all, there's nothing impressive about this smartphone...except the price. $300 unlocked means this thing should be free (or very cheap) with a contract. There's nothing in the GSmart that will please a true gadget-head, but it looks like a perfectly functional phone for the rest of the world.
