The Chicago Bulls traded 7-foot center Aaron Gray(notes) to the New Orleans Hornets for guard Devin Brown(notes) yesterday and it appears that the team isn't done dealing. The Daily Herald predicts that the team will send Kirk Hinrich(notes) or John Salmons(notes) packing in exchange for an expiring contract.

The hope in Chicago, apparently, is to get as much salary-cap space as possible by the time the Feb. 18 trading deadline comes in order to have a good chunk of room to add a big free agent this summer.

Of course everybody else wants to clear salary off their books right now, too, in anticipation for the athletic smorgasbord that will be laid out this summer so such a deal won't be easy to swing by the Bulls.

Apple is hosting a media event on tomorrow, January 27th, in San Francisco. Everybody in the world expects Apple to unveil the Apple Tablet aka iTablet, iSlate, iPad, Pad and Slate.
There are plenty of rumors about the Apple Tablet, but honestly we actually know nothing. Until now Apple managed to keep us in a murky state of information that hides the Apple Tablet perfectly.

The rumors cover such a wide field of applications for the Apple Tablet that it is hard to tell where Apple will run with it. What will be the simple message of the Apple Tablet? Is it an eBook and magazine reader, movie viewer, game machine, or just a giant iPhone?

Is the Apple Tablet more akin to a MacBook or an iPhone? More rumors point towards an iPhone OS running on the Apple Tablet.
Somehow it is assumed that the iPad is having 3G connectivity. Why?
The price of the Apple Tablet is rumored to be around $1,000. The experience using an Apple Tablet needs to be better or more convenient than using a MacBook or an iPhone, why else would you spend $1,000 on a new device?

There is no single spy shot of the Apple Tablet. All circulating Apple Tablet images are fake renderings. Another win for Apple on that front.

Apple manages to even to keep the name of the Tablet a mystery with shell companies registering domain names and trademarks. I am really impressed! One day before the big unveiling of a new product and we know nothing, besides maybe if true, Steve Jobs saying "This will be the most important thing I've ever done."

Tomorrow is the day. Apple unveils a new product category, it better not suck.

MELBOURNE, Australia — What had been a very good week of tennis here for Andy Roddick — raising the hopes of his faithful fans that a second Grand Slam was in reach — ended abruptly when 14th-seeded Marin Cilic beat him in a back-and-forth five-set match, 7-6 (4), 6-4, 3-6, 2-6, 6-3.

Early Tuesday, Rafael Nadal pulled up lame with a knee injury, as Andy Murray was putting a beating on Rafa, as the world’s second-rated tennis player is known to fans, in their quarterfinal match of the Australian Open. Murray, the scrambling Scotsman, had Nadal zigging when he should have been zagging. When Nadal withdrew in the third set, trailing by 3-6, 6-7 (2), 0-3, a changing of the guard perhaps was in motion.

Murray said he would have liked to make his dominating performance an unquestioned victory. But his play demonstrated that, sore knee or no, Nadal was not in the same league with him.

“I’m obviously disappointed that the match couldn’t have finished as I would have liked,” Murray said. “But with the position I was in, you know, I feel like I would have had a chance of going on to finish the match.”

Murray could not help but feel robbed when Nadal took his racket and went home.

“Unfortunately, that happens sometimes in sport,” he said. “You know, a win’s a win. Yeah, I obviously would have liked to have finished it off the right way.”

Roddick, seeded seventh, said he was battling a nerve problem in his shoulder. It was another impressive performance by Cilic, who bounced the United States Open champion, Juan Martín del Potro, in the fourth round. Roddick dropped the first two sets as he battled back the pain. He endured, however, to win the next two sets. When Cilic saved three break points in the first game of the set, then broke what had been Roddick’s forte, a money serve, Cilic went on to capture his third five-set match of the tournament to make his first semifinal at a major.

Roddick does not know the genesis of his injury, but said it had been bothering him for a few days.

“I felt it a little bit the other night, the cold weather, trying to hit through those for a little while,” he said. “I didn’t hit yesterday, and felt pretty good today in warm-up and the first couple games, then I think I aggravated something.”

Roddick had a trainer look at it but said the pain persisted.

“By the end of the first set, I was pretty numb in the bottom two fingers,” he said. “ I could still hit it pretty hard; I was just having trouble controlling it, you know.

“I started kind of almost going sidearm for a little bit, or at least what it felt like. That was working for a while, I think until he realized I was having trouble.”

Roddick gave all the credit to Cilic, but still wonders what might have been.

“I knew I wasn’t going to stop, but I didn’t know what I was going to be able to come up with,” he said. “To be able push it and have a shot, I thought it was a pretty good effort.”

On the women’s side, Zheng Jie, the first player from China to make the semifinals here, feels a certain amount of validation. She is playing brilliantly now, after leaving the Chinese state sports system to manage her own career and watching her ranking sink.

She beat Maria Kirilenko of Russia in thorough fashion, 6-1, 6-3, in her quarterfinal match on Tuesday, and will face Justine Henin, a player Zheng greatly admires and counts as a role model. She is glad Henin is back, but she could have done without meeting her in the semifinals.

Zheng has had success at Melbourne Park before, winning the 2006 doubles title here with Yan Zi. At 26, she knows about historic milestones: in 2008 she became the first woman to make the last four of a Grand Slam as a wild card at Wimbledon.

“It’s very amazing for me,” said Zheng, standing courtside at Rod Laver Arena, the center court here. “I won my first title in the doubles in 2006 on this court, so I feel this court is lucky for me and I hope I can go further forward.”

Since working with her husband, Zheng has a career-high No. 15 ranking. She has played big Grand Slam matches before — she also was part of a doubles championship team at Wimbledon in 2006. But Zheng admitted she needed to raise her game to another level against Henin.

“She is so strong mentally,” she said. “It’s tough for me, but I’m so happy I can play against her.”

Henin, a former world No. 1, advanced to the semifinals of the Australian Open on Tuesday, something most thought impossible in only her second tournament back after a nearly two-year retirement. Though she has a sore thigh and a sprained ankle, and she has not been sleeping great, she could not be happier.

Henin was not as dazzling as she had been here at Melbourne Park, but she outwilled Nadia Petrova, 7-6 (3), 7-5, to eliminate the final seeded player on her side of the draw.

Petrova, a Russian seeded 19th, was hardly a slouch. She eviscerated the United States Open champion Kim Clijsters in 52 minutes, and she bounced Svetlana Kuznetsova, last year’s French Open winner and the No. 3 in the world.

She had faced Henin 14 times before Tuesday, losing 12 of them, but Petrova said the Belgian was a much more complete player after the time off. Henin, unranked and here on a wild card, beat Petrova at the Brisbane International in her first match back on tour on Jan. 4 after almost 20 months in retirement.

“She’s playing more aggressively,” Petrova said. “She’s playing closer to the line, really going after the second serves. I think she also did improve her first serve, as well.”

Henin was sluggish at first Tuesday, shanking shots that she had hit superbly in her previous match against her fellow Belgian Yanina Wickmayer.

“It was difficult to find the energy today,” Henin, 27, conceded.

She found her groove in the tie breaker, hitting one winner after another. Petrova broke Henin’s serve in the opening game of second set and burst to a 3-0 lead. But Henin found a power surge, blasting forehands past Petrova and slicing backhands away from her. She won seven of the next nine games.

“At the end, I played much more aggressive tennis,” she said. “I didn’t want to go to the tie breaker. I wanted to close out the match.”

Henin did close out the match emphatically, and has finally opened herself up to a new possibility: an eighth Grand Slam final is within her reach. Last Sunday, looking at her draw, she could barely imagine that.

“I knew it was going to be hard,” she said. “Every match was a goal. So I never thought I’ll be in the semis. I dream to be in the final.

“That’s what I’m going to keep doing now, because now I can dream of being in the final of this Grand Slam, of course. But it’s still a long way. I just try to be focused on what I have to do on the court and hope it’s going to keep going this way.”

Sixth seed Venus Williams has brushed off a shaky start to roar into the quarter-finals of the Australian Open.

The American powered her way to a 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 victory over Francesca Schiavone, dominating the final two sets against the frustrated Italian veteran.

She now faces the winner of the fourth round match between fourth seeded Dane Caroline Wozniacki and China's Li Na.

But she struggled to find form in the opening set before springing to life.

She claimed the second set after a shaky start then raced through the deciding set leaving Schiavone shell-shocked.

The Italian was shut out in the final set, conceding breaks of serve to the American in the second, fourth

Jolie and Pitt break-up?

Posted by ACR | 9:06 PM

Brangelina fans! Is it true that Angelina and Brad Pitt broke up? Many articles and news came out about their recent break-up. How was Mr. and Ms. Smith now? Is Jolie and Pitt break-up real?

Read this article from ABCNews below.

Sources close to Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie say there is no truth to rumours that the celebrity superstar couple has split.

The story claiming Pitt and Jolie had broken up first appeared in the British newspaper News Of The World on Sunday and was quickly picked up by international websites.

But US celebrity website People.com says "multiple sources" close to the family say the rumours are false.

"Everything is fine [with the couple]," a source told People.com.

Another source said the split reports were "totally false".

Jolie is reportedly in New York for a Vanity Fair magazine photo shoot, while Pitt stayed in Los Angeles at the weekend to take part in the Hope For Haiti Now telethon.

The break-up rumours took off after Pitt failed to attend this weekend's Screen Actors Guild Awards, where his film Inglourious Basterds picked up the award for best ensemble cast.

According to the News Of The World, the couple - who are not married - filed separation papers with a Los Angeles lawyer.

The couple has six children, three of whom are adopted.

Simon Cowell, the "tell it like it is," but “with a heart” judge on American Idol, is leaving after this season. He is bringing to Fox Television, The X Factor, a show he owns that is already a smash hit in England. Cowell signed his new X Factor contract in front of the press on January 11th. He’ll serve as a judge on the U.S. version when it premieres on Fox in the fall of 2011.

“We did talk about me staying on both shows,” Cowell told his buddy and host of Idol, Ryan Seacrest, in a radio interview. “But, it just was impossible.” He also teased Ryan that “too much TV exposure is a bad thing.” Cowell also said he wanted to leave Idol while it was still the No. 1 show. Based on the ratings for its first week – nearly 30 million viewers watched the season premiere on January 12, it is a sure bet to remain a No. 1 show.

Cowell’s decision is the biggest threat yet to what has been the country’s top-rated TV program for the past five years and a true cultural force. This season, original host Paula Abdul has been replaced by Ellen DeGeneres. But Cowell, with his caustic commentary, has long been seen as the big star of Idol which has launched such famous stars as Nashville’s own Carrie Underwood and Kellie Pickler, along with Kelly Clarkson and Chris Daughtry. There’s also Jennifer Hudson, an Academy Award winner, Fantasia, and many more.

Fox Entertainment chairman Peter Rice expressed his commitment to Idol in the post-Cowell years ahead. “Simon is irreplaceable,” he says. “But it’s going to be incumbent upon us to make sure the show remains vital and entertaining and compelling.”

Cowell said he’ll soon announce the judges who will join him on The X Factor and hinted that a reunion with former Idol judge Paula Abdul is a possibility. He even jokingly welcomed her as a contestant. “There’s no upper age limit on the show,” Cowell says. “You can literally be 100 years old. So Paula could audition.”

Fox Network has announced that it is pleased with the addition of The X Factor. Executives have commented that they will now air The X Factor in the fall, American Idol in the winter, and So You Think You Can Dance in the summer – all reality TV shows produced, at least in part, by British producers and executives.

Currently shown in 17 countries across the world — from Australia to Morocco to Spain — X Factor is a reality competition that Cowell created. While it incorporates elements of Idol, it also differs in several key areas.

The British version of the show begins with an audition round, where contestants perform in front of judges and a live audience. As on Idol, there are actually several sets of auditions that singers must pass to secure a shot to perform in front of the judges; only the judges' audition is aired. Singers that make the cut are then sent on to a "boot camp" round. Unlike Idol, Factor allows groups as well as solo artists to compete. Though the categories have changed over the show's six seasons, current groups also include boys, girls and over-25s. Following another elimination during boot camp, the remaining singers are then assigned a judge who mentors them. Finally, 12 singers are sent through to the final round: live televised performances that have viewers vote for their favorites.
The British show's most notable winner is Leona Lewis, who triumphed during the third season. (She sings the theme song for the current sensational Avatar movie.)
The U.S. version will launch in fall 2011, with Cowell acting as both executive producer and judge.
Following is a comparison between American Idol and The X Factor

American Idol
Age Limit: No one over 28 is eligible to enter the competition.
Contestants: Only solo acts can apply.
Judges and Mentors: Celebrity mentors are brought in to guide contestants, while the judges critique the performances.
Voting: Despite judges’ expertise, their critiques (or praise) don’t count. Viewers vote for their favorite performers each week and the contestant with the fewest votes is sent home.

The X Factor
Age Limit: There is none.
Contestants: Musical groups, as well as individual singers, are welcome.
Judges and Mentors: The judges are the mentors. Contestants are divided into groups headed by a judge, who acts as an advocate on elimination nights.
Voting: Each week, the bottom two acts, determined by viewer votes, face off in a last-ditch attempt to win the judges’ favor and stay in the race. In the final weeks, viewers have the last word.

They can't all be Nexus Ones and X10s. Perhaps Android's greatest selling point, for manufacturers, is the fact that it is free to use in their devices. That means a higher-quality OS with a much lower development and licensing cost, which allows manufacturers to make dirt-cheap phones for the masses.

The Gigabyte GSmart Android phone (AndroidSpin) is one of these populist smartphones. It sports a 528 MHz Qualcomm processor, a 2.8" touchscreen, and the Android 1.6 OS. It supports 2G EDGE, but not 3G. The GSmart does have WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

All in all, there's nothing impressive about this smartphone...except the price. $300 unlocked means this thing should be free (or very cheap) with a contract. There's nothing in the GSmart that will please a true gadget-head, but it looks like a perfectly functional phone for the rest of the world.

Showtime obtained the exclusive right to show Twilight on cable, and, on January 16th, Showtime made the movie available for viewing to its "On Demand" subscribers.

Since its release in November, 2008, Twilight has been an absolute commodity to the business, and Showtime was quickly followed in acquisition by FX (who nabbed the exclusive rights to show the film on ad-supported networks).

In support of its involvement with the series, Showtime stood beside us on the red carpet at the premiere of The Twilight Saga: New Moon and took some exclusive footage of the night.

This could not have happened if the negotiations between their two camps not exploded over that pesky random blood testing issue.

Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather are both betting favorites in their upcoming bouts.

Megamanny is a heavy minus -450 favorite to thwart rugged Ghanaian Joshua Clottey in their “Event” to be held at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington on March 13. Those betting on Clottey will get a return of $400 for a $100 wager. If you like the Pinoy Idol, you lay a heavy price, betting $450 to earn a $100 profit.

Mayweather looms large as a minus -250 pick to beat aging Sugar Shane Mosley in a May 1 Las Vegas bout which may be formally announced Friday.

Mosley’s dance card opened up when Andre Berto withdrew from their Jan. 30 Mandalay Bay bout due to the earthquake caused suffering which has affected his family and so many others in Haiti.

Those who like Sugar Shane have to put $100 to get back $290 and, if you bet the undefeated Money May, you lay down $250 in hopes of a profit of 100 simoleons.

It appears the ABC has accidentally leaked the winner of this year's Triple J Hottest 100.

Independent news website Crikey has published a screen shot of the ABC Shop website which promotes the February edition of JMag.

The preview reveals which band grabbed the top spot.

The page has now been taken down and Triple J management has refused to confirm or deny that the report is correct.

Click here to view the Crikey article.

Betting agency Centebet says the alleged leak of the winner will not impact on internet betting sites.

Centrebet spokesman Steven Hobbs says voting for the countdown has already closed so punters will not be affected.

"Our betting closes when the voting closes - obviously until the voting closes the winner is not known but once the voting closes, the betting closes so we couldn't be affected by any leak of the result," he said.

But Sportingbet Australia says it has closed all betting on the Hottest 100 countdown because of an information leak.

The Hottest 100 is revealed annually on Australia Day.

You can almost call this the Manny Pacquiao eliminator bout.

A Floyd Mayweather Jr. and 'Sugar' Shane Mosley clash would be good for boxing. [Correction] A Floyd and Mosley fight would be great for boxing!

Best believe it. This is a fight that can put boxing back on the right track.

Mayweather will be able to legitimize his status as one of the best boxers by fighting someone who is also on top while Mosley's willingness to provide his blood in an Olympic-style drug test can bring some of the skeptical fans' faith back in the sport.

It's amazing how the photo that accompanies this article is more than 10 years old and these two are still perched on top of boxing's pedestal. What's more amazing is the fact that they've been fighting around the same weight class for several years yet have not found a way to face each other inside the ring- until now... well if Floyd finally takes a real challenge.

I mean, he will fight Mosley right? It just makes perfect sense because who else is out there for him? Berto and Punisher Paul are both managed by his guy Al Haymon so the best possible match-up and money making fight is Sugar Shane.

Mosley on the other hand has publicly said he is willing to take the WADA style drug testing Floyd requested against Manny Pacquiao. Good! Because at the end of the day, it's Mosley who has some doping history anyway and if Floyd wouldn't ask him to take the tests, it simply means he was making the fight against Pacquiao impossible to make.

Besides, Mosley deserves this fight. He has yet to cash in on his destruction of Antonio Margarito. If I were Golden Boy Promotions, I'd be mighty ashamed if I can't make this one happen for a partner in the firm. They rep Mayweather now too so this should be a done deal by now?

Makes perfect sense right?

Except of course that this is Floyd Mayweather Jr. we are talking about. Those who blame Pacquiao for their mega-fight not happening, all I can say is that Pacquiao has always given his fans the fights they wanted to see. He faced everybody they asked him to face. As far as Floyd is concerned however, you tell me if you wanted to see him fight Juan Manuel Marquez. Or when he fought Carlos Baldomir and Shamba Mitchell instead of Margarito, Mosley or Cotto.

That's all in the past though, and today, 'Money' can redeem himself for his fans sake. I don't know how long the Floydnuts can hold on and defend their boy any longer while firing blank bullets in the form of baseless accusations and a track record of not fighting the best. And if Floyd passes on this one in favor of a lesser opponent, they might very well shoot themselves.

I believe this fight will happen though, and it will definitely a fight everybody will want to see. I don't care if you are a Pacquiao fan or a Floyd hater, this match-up is just too 'sexy' to pass up.

Every other E-Reader manufacturer on earth got a fist to the face (Engadget) this weekend with news of a new Asus E-Reader. The Asus DR-570 will sport a 6" OLED screen with high-brightness settings. It will have both WiFi and 3G, and will be capable of showing Flash video

Asus claims the DR-570's battery will last 122 hours on a single charge under 'real-life' conditions. This wonder-reader is supposed to hit stores around the end of the year, possibly in time for the holiday season.

To be honest, the DR-570 sounds more like a highly specialized tablet than a straight-up E-Reader. I'd expect (since it can handle Flash and sports WiFi/3G) that this thing will have a browser and probably an app store (or, maybe, it will run on Android and be able to use the App Market). So the DR-570 is a portable OLED Internet/Reader tablet with 3G, WiFi, and a ridiculously long battery life? What's the catch?

The following is a listing of the best pound-for-pound mixed martial arts fighters in the world as of January 2010:

1) Fedor Emelianenko (Strikeforce) – (31 – 1, 1 NC)

The man. The myth. The legend. After roughly a decade in the fight game “The Last Emperor” still reigns supreme. Had it not been for a controversial stoppage due to a cut early in his career his record would still remain unblemished. He has simply done it better and longer than anyone else on the list.
2) Anderson Silva (UFC) – (25 – 4)

After what many called lackluster performances against Patrick Cote and Thales Leites he reminded everyone why he is still the most dangerous striker in the world with a thorough dismantling of Forrest Griffin at UFC 101. He still has yet to lose a fight in the UFC.
3) Georges St. Pierre (UFC) – (19 – 2)

“Rush” has been making it look easy for some time now in one of the deepest divisions in the UFC. He now has three consecutive welterweight title defenses under his belt and will be looking to make it an even four when he takes on British striker Dan Hardy at UFC 111 on March 27.
4) BJ Penn (UFC) – (15 – 5 – 1)

Penn is considered by many to be the top lightweight fighter in the history of the sport. After back-to-back victories over top contenders Kenny Florian and Diego Sanchez this veteran continues to impose his dominance time in and time out. He has not lost at 155-pounds since November 2001.
5) Lyoto Machida (UFC) – (16 – 0)

The undefeated Machida is coming off an unimpressive and controversial unanimous decision victory over a very game Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC 104 in what was undoubtedly his toughest fight in his UFC career. This karate specialist, known to many simply as “The Dragon,” should be better prepared for the rematch that is likely to take place sometime during the first half of 2010.
6) Jose Aldo (WEC) – (16 – 1)

Aldo is coming off the biggest win of his career defeating long time WEC featherweight champion Mike Brown in dominant fashion to become the new title holder. He is (6 – 0) since joining the WEC and has won all of his fights by knockout. At the ripe old age of 23 he is fast becoming one of the best all-around fighters in the world.
7) Gegard Mousasi (Strikeforce/DREAM) – (28 – 2 – 1)

This Fedor Emelianenko disciple is a superstar in the making. After storming on the scene and winning the 2008 DREAM middleweight tournament he made a seamless transition to the United States and the Strikeforce light heavyweight division, capturing the 205-pound title in his debut. What is scary is that he has yet to reach his full potential at the age of 26.
8) Shinya Aoki (DREAM) – (23 – 4, 1 NC)

Aoki is arguably the best 155-pound fighter in the world not named BJ Penn. After conquering his Japanese homeland this submission specialist is currently flirting with the idea of coming to the United States to take on current Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez in a potential unification bout.
9) Jon Fitch (UFC) – (21 – 3, 1 NC)

Fitch’s handy work is not always pretty, but it is certainly effective. He is one of just four fighters ever who have won eight or more consecutive fights in the UFC along with Anderson Silva, Royce Gracie, and Lyoto Machida. Overall, he has won eleven of his twelve fights in the UFC losing only to Georges St. Pierre at UFC 87.
10) Jake Shields (Strikeforce) – (24 – 4 – 1)

This former EliteXC welterweight champion, and natural welterweight, recently added another belt to his collection defeating Jason “Mayhem” Miller to win the vacant Strikeforce middleweight championship. Look for him to return to the cage for his first title defense against the newly acquired free agent Dan Henderson.
Others considered (in no particular order):

Brock Lesnar (UFC), Dan Henderson (Strikeforce), Mauricio Rua (UFC),
Thiago Alves (UFC), Brian Bowles (WEC), Eddie Alvarez (Bellator/DREAM)
Mike Brown (WEC), Rashad Evans (UFC), Miguel Torres (WEC)

Avatar wins best film

Posted by ACR | 9:54 PM

Source:Rebekah van Druten and wires, ABCNews

The Oscars race began in earnest today, with James Cameron's Avatar being named best film drama and The Hangover claiming the top comedy trophy at the Golden Globes.

Box office blockbuster Avatar also earned Cameron the best director Globe.

The film has been hailed as a cinematic milestone for its use of state-of-the-art 3D cameras and motion-capture technology which Cameron has been instrumental in helping to develop.

"This is the best job in the world," he told the star-studded audience at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Earlier, Cameron said he had been expecting to lose out in the best director category to ex-wife Kathryn Bigelow, who was nominated for Iraq war drama The Hurt Locker.

"I'm unprepared," he admitted.

"Frankly I thought Kathryn was going to get this. But make no mistake, I'm very grateful."

Acting awards

Among Hollywood stars, Sandra Bullock earned the title of best drama actress for her role in The Blind Side, while Jeff Bridges was named best dramatic actor for his turn as a down-and-out country singer in Crazy Heart.

Bridges had been nominated for a Golden Globe on three previous occasions but never won.

"You're really screwing up my under-appreciated status," he joked before dedicating the award to his wife and family.

Robert Downey Jr won the Golden Globe for best comedy actor for Sherlock Holmes.

Meryl Streep, meanwhile, won her seventh Golden Globe for comedy Julie And Julia.

Inglourious Basterds' Chistoph Waltz was named best supporting actor. The 53-year-old Austrian has already won a slew of top honours for his performance as a sadistic Nazi army officer in Tarantino's bloody World War II revenge fantasy.

"Thank you very very much," he said.

"A year and a half ago I was exposed to the gravitational forces of Quentin Tarantino. He took my modest little world and with the power of his talent and his words, he flung it into his orbit. A dizzying experience."

Mo'Nique - going against her reputation as a comedienne and playing an abusive mother in Precious: Based On The Novel Push By Sapphire - earned the best supporting actress Globe.

"Thank you God for this amazing ride that you're allowing me to go on," the emotional actress told the audience.

"I tell y'all - I'm shaking. I'm in the midst of my dream."

Disney adventure Up won two Golden Globes: best animated movie and best original score.

The White Ribbon scooped the Golden Globe for best foreign language film, while Up In The Air garnered writing honours for Jason Reitman and Sheldon Turner.

The Golden Globes are given out by some 90 members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association to film and television stars.

A win today is likely will give movies the momentum they need in the race for the Oscars - the world's top film honours, which will handed out on March 7.

Aussie winners and losers

Among television awards, Mad Men claimed its third straight Golden Globe for best drama and Glee was named best comedy or musical.

Nominated Aussies had mixed success, with Toni Collette being named best actress in a TV comedy series but Rose Byrne and Simon Baker missing out in their categories.

"Gee thank you so much. This is a real pleasure," Collette said on accepting her award.

"The last time I came here 15 years ago I was on the loo and missed my whole category," she quipped.

Collette trumped Courteney Cox (Cougar Town), Edie Falco (Nurse Jackie), Tina Fey (30 Rock) and Lea Michele (Glee).

Baker was nominated for for best actor in a TV drama series for The Mentalist, but that Globe went to Michael C Hall for his role in Dexter.

Byrne got a nod for her the supporting role in drama Damages, but Big Love's Chloe Sevigny was the winner.

Australian actress Nicole Kidman opened today's proceedings with an appeal for donations to the Haiti earthquake relief effort.

"I just want to say - on a serious note - a lot of people are wearing ribbons tonight in support of the people of Haiti and you can go to NBC.com to make your personal contribution," she said.

In other top TV awards, Julianna Margulies was named best actress in a drama for The Good Wife and 30 Rock's Alec Baldwin won the Golden Globe for best actor in a comedy.

Grey Gardens was named best made-for-TV movie and its star Drew Barrymore took home the best actress in a TV movie Globe.

Finally, Kevin Bacon was named best actor in TV movie for Taking Chance.

The science-fiction blockbuster "Avatar" won best drama at the Golden Globes and picked up the directing honor for James Cameron on Sunday, raising the "Titanic" filmmaker's prospects for another Academy Awards triumph.

It was a repeat of Cameron's Globes night 12 years ago, when "Titanic" won best drama and the directing prize on its way to dominating the Oscars.

This time, though, instead of being "king of the world," as Cameron declared at the Oscars, he has become king of an alien landscape, elevating space fantasy to enormous critical acclaim.
"'Avatar' asks us to see that everything is connected, all human beings to each other, and us to the Earth. And if you have to go four and a half light years to another, made-up planet to appreciate this miracle of the world that we have right here, well, you know what, that's the wonder of cinema right there, that's the magic," Cameron said.

Maria Sharapova got her big endorsement deal.

Maria Sharapova got her preseason tour around the world.

But what Maria Sharapova didn't get was past the first round of the Australian Open. The Russian star lost to fellow Russian Maria Kirilenko, 7-6 (4), 3-6, 6-4.

Nike created a special dress for Sharapova's 2010 Australian Open run, but it will only get to be worn once. Both Sharapova and Kirilenko played the match decked out in the traditional Aussie national colors, green and yellow, but it was the less well-known Kirilenko who got the victory.

Sharpova finished the match with 77 unforced errors and 11 double-faults, handing the match to Kirilenko, who will now face Austrian qualifier Yvonne Meusburger in the 2nd round.

While Maria Kirilenko is glad she made it through a difficult match-up with former world #1 and 2008 Aussie Open champion Sharapova, Sharapova herself will be left to examine what went wrong so she can move on with her season. Whether it was her grueling travel schedule, or if she is still recovering from the injury that impacted her 2009 season, Maria Sharapova still has a lot of work to do if she wants to return to the top of the women's tennis rankings.

Following a story posted Tuesday about the Milwaukee Bucks rookie phenom Brandon Jennings talking trash with a fake Jordan Farmar (Los Angeles Lakers guard) through Twitter, Jennings felt compelled to respond.

Tuesday evening Jennings responded to the article: "Yo yall read that yahoo story??? I guess somebody needed something to write about. I'm going to keep it simple." He then followed that up with a few more tweets:

-"And the guy who made the page said he did it for some shoes! (the face)"

-"I think I'm going to delete this page and make a new one, and set it private that way I can add who ever I want, and talk "real" all day."

The trash talking began after the Lakers defeated the Bucks on Sunday evening 95-77 and Jennings told a friend, via Twitter, to call him to get the real story on the Lakers. Fake Farmar then got invovled by asking what was going on. Jennings, obviously still feeling like he has to prove himself, threw a little jab at "Farmar" by saying "nah i was just telling the homie how thirsty you are. That's all. But I'm not going to make this a big thing." After another message or two, Jennings basically told Farmar to watch his back with the emergence of Lakers guard Shannon Brown.

Another new contract was signed by Sharapova for her Nike endorsement. A good choice from Nike that they stick with this tennis player because I will surely watch her pictures over and over again. She is sexy and pretty right?

As Charlie Sheen returns to work on "Two and a Half Men," CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler is speaking out about the controversial headlines surrounding the star and his wife Brooke Mueller.

CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler said NBC’s decision to program the now-ailing The Jay Leno Show in primetime was “misguided” and though it allowed her network’s 10 p.m. dramas to generate more ad revenue, “it had a negative impact on the business.” She had more harsh words for NBC, which has yet to announce definitively what will happen to the future of Leno or Conan O’Brien.

“Ultimately there is no substitute for developing great programming, working with great talent and getting your programs on the air,” argued Tassler, who spoke to the nation’s TV critics today in Pasadena, CA. “Our creative community was somewhat bruised by (Leno). As it was taking place, a lot of people were put out of work. A lot of people saw this as having a pretty negative impact on our business right now. I think it was misguided and our business is thriving right now. We are enjoying success with new hit shows, as is ABC, as is Fox. Leno was an experiment that obviously did not work.”

In other news, Tassler said Charlie Sheen’s ongoing legal woes shouldn’t affect production of the network’s top-rated comedy Two and a Half Men. Sheen was arrested Christmas Day on suspicion of felony menacing, domestic violence and other charges. He will return to Colorado to face the charges next month. “We’re being very sensitive to the fact that it’s a very personal and very private matter for Charlie,” she said. “It has no impact on the network. His show is proceeding along with its regular production schedule and has had no impact. Right now, it’s business as usual.”

Tassler didn’t beat around the bush when she answered a question about whether the organ transplant drama Three Rivers has been officially cancelled. “Unfortunately we’ve all known each other long enough that when something is on hiatus, its code for something else.” But she acknowledged the network still has plenty of new series to program, including 18 more episodes of the actioner Flashpoint and 13 episodes of the new drama The Bridge, an Aaron Douglas starrer about a cop-cum-union rep. “We had a terrific fall launch,” she said. “A lot of our shows are working so we had more content than we had real estate.”

MANILA, Philippines - Freddie Roach is just as thrilled as everybody who’s looking forward to Manny Pacquiao’s fight with Josh Clottey on March 13 at the Dallas Cowboys’ Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

“I wanted Manny in an action fight and that’s what we got with Clottey,” Roach, the hottest boxing trainer out there today, told the Las Vegas Sun yesterday from Los Angeles.

Clottey, a 33-year-old, 5-foot-8 welterweight from Ghana, must have felt like he won the lottery when he was chosen from among a short list as Pacquiao’s next opponent.

Paulie Malignaggi, Yuri Foreman and Juan Manuel Marquez were in the radar after negotiations for the superfight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. went up in a ball of fire.

Any fight would have been a good fight for the fans as long as Pacquiao is up on the ring, but in the end, they ended up with Clottey, a stablemate of Pacquiao’s at Top Rank.

It was a decision that thrilled Roach.

“I wanted an action fight, I don’t want Manny in a boring fight. With Paulie it would be a blowout. Let’s face it, he’s not in the same class as Manny Pacquiao or Floyd Mayweather. Yuri Foreman is a good fighter, he’s clever, but he’s boring.”

Roach said the Mayweather fight didn’t happen because the undefeated American “has all the excuses in the world” and just doesn’t want to fight Pacquiao and risk losing that “zero” in his ring record.

Arum and his stepson, Top Rank president Todd duBeof, flew to Dallas the other day and shared the VIP box with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and former President George Bush and his wife, Laura.

Arum is in town to seal the deal that should bring Pacquiao to the $1.2 billion stadium, which could house as many as 100,000 fans when all seats are taken, for the first time in his career.

It’s almost a done deal, everybody’s saying, and soon both fighters will sign the contract, and appear in a press conference on Jan. 18 in Dallas and the following day in New York.

Pacquiao will have to defend his WBO welterweight crown against Clottey, who seven months ago came close to defeating Miguel Cotto, who was eventually knocked out by Pacquiao last November.

Pacquiao’s adviser, Mike Koncz, said Pacquiao will fly to Los Angeles on Jan. 17 to start training.

Arum is just as thrilled as well as Jones and the ex-President.

“I think that he’s [Bush] going to come to the fight. He said that he ‘loves Pacquiao.’ He ‘loves Pacquiao.’ I was talking to him for like a long time, me and Todd. He was sitting with us in Jerry Jones’ box,” Arum told fanhouse.com.

He said they would set up the stadium for 50,000 fans.

“This place is absolutely awesome, I mean you should see it. The crowd is unbelievable. This is going to be incredible. This stadium, I’m telling you, with this fight, we’re going to pack this place,” said Arum as he enjoyed a Cowboys-Eagles game.

“I’m definitely going to sign for it tomorrow and finalize the deal tomorrow. And on Jan. 18, all of the Dallas Cowboys’ cheerleaders are going to be there. This is going to be absolutely huge,” Arum told fanhouse.com.

The Microvision SHOWWX laser pico projector first came to our attention in development back in 2008, with the final version making an appearance at this years CES. Around the size of a smartphone, the SHOWWX projector enables a user to connect their iPod, mobile phone or a myriad of other devices to display movies and photos as a WVGA (848x480 pixels) DVD quality “big screen” experience.

The Microvision SHOWWX laser projector is powered by a PicoP display engine and features a MEMS single scanning mirror, giving infinite focus and a widescreen field of view up to five meters, depending on the surrounding ambient light. The infinite focus of the device, which we witnessed at CES was indeed impressive, with a projected image thrown onto a near and far surface at the same time remaining in focus on both surfaces.

The brightness of the projected image did drop off pretty dramatically once the image gets much bigger than 20-inches or so, but at smaller sizes the picture is very bright with vibrant color - even in the bright light of the CES showroom floor. Weighing 122g and measuring 14mm x 60mm x 118mm, the SHOWWX features a rechargeable battery and supports any device with video out capabilities such as netbooks and digital cameras.

With the Microvision SHOWWX laser projector already in limited availability in Australia and New Zealand, and with Vodafone Spain reportedly bundling the product with some Nokia mobiles, a US release is slated for around March with an expected US$500 price tag.
